Life and mortality of humans within atheisim, my personal viewpoint.

Here we are, im living, breathing, and 24/7you and i have thoughts racing through our heads.
From conception.
To death.
Thoughts flow and make you and i who we are.
You have to wonder, as an atheist, how did religion come about? What was it that made us human beings believe that even though we are at the top of the food chain, there is a higher power? It is our thoughts that made us who we are, and it is those same thoughts that brought up probably one of the first things in civilization-- that being GODS. Gods were a comforting thing to prehistoric man, they comforted the confused little monkey and made reasoning for all the things he could see, now he knew he would go to heaven if he were to leave earth.

Now, one of the more grim things about realizing our mortality (or whatever you like to call it), is that we are merely surviving to reproduce. But that's the humans genetic programming to do so! Theres no one judging us and seeing if we're fit to live in his celestial palace, as nice as that sounds though...

This does nothing to satisfy our need to know what exactly we are supposed to do here on earth!

What do i believe? Work on the here and the now, live for your fellow human being and show as much compassion for everyone as possible. You have one life to live, make it one that will go down in the history books as someone people would be proud to talk about.

I have to ask my question to all of YOU now, from a non religious point of view, what is the meaning of life and mortality?

Thanks for reading my first real post.

  2. basically i believe in god, and that you should live your life as best you can....and try to help others....and respect your parents....and be thankful for what you have...if you do all that I dont see a reason for you to burn in hell because you were not "saved"

  4. I think people just are scared death. They need hope, that life isn't meaninglessness

  5. I believe there has always been a wrong perception of God in the mainstream thinking. God was misinterpreted by the masses like 1xxx years ago so the wrong worldview could survive and manipulate our psyche. Even the atheists are manipulated by that "Christian psyche" so that they are basically doing the same thing but just under another flag. The ones who understood it correctly are the ones who are being thought of as odd and dangerous!
    Nice blog will follow :)!

  6. I believe there is a God, but I think "he" is not the same as he is described from the Christian church. For me atheism is the same as christianity just under another flag; ofcourse I overgeneralize, but still.. :p

  7. I don't really believe in a higher being. For me, it's just an excuse. It's an attempt to explain human's tendency towards compassion, mixed with a reason to fear doing otherwise. Do I believe Jesus existed? Yeah. I do. Just not in a holy sense. I think he was a great leader and a great man, who worked for an ethical future. I don't think it was a god guiding his hand. I think it was human decency.

  8. I believe kind of sort of as the common ancient greek soldiers did. The only immortality we can achieve is through people remembering us and our deeds through all time. I kind of believe that each time somebody imagines you doing something, historical or future, you are almost living on, as if you are immortal. The more people remembering and for longer, the more 'immortal' you are. Constant remembering around the globe = 'living' constantly.

  12. Nice thought bro, I believe in god and christianity. I believe that the only concrete thing anyone can take from the bible is that we need to show love, true love and care, for others all the time. Just be a bro to everyone you meet basically. Followed.
